Sidney boys swimmers lower time at district meet

OXFORD — Sidney’s boys accomplished what they wanted at the Division I district meet at Miami University: lower the time from the sectional meet.

Though they accomplished the goal, they felt just short of qualifying for the state meet.

One individual goal was met in that Chase VanTilburgh wanted to break a minute in the 100 Breaststroke. He not only accomplished that but in doing so made a “Y” National cut in that event.

The Medley relay of Jaden Humphrey, VanTilburgh, Caleb Johnson, and Collin McClain dropped time to a 1:44.09 to place 18th in the southwest district.

VanTilburgh swam next in the 50 Free and lowered his time to a 21.63 to place 11th. Collin McClain did his best time in the 100 Free of 49.55 to place 24th.

The 200 Free relay with Johnson, Humphrey, McClain and VanTilburgh did their best time of the year with a 1:31.41 to place 15th. VanTilburgh swam his personal best time of 59.89 to get a “Y” National cut and to also place 13th.

The 400 Free relay of Logan Searcy, Caleb Johnson, Brennan McClain and Collin McClain dropped to a 3:35.77, their best time of the year, to place place 20th.

“The boys had a great season and a super finale at districts,” Sidney coach Mary Jannides said. “With three of the swimmers being underclassmen, they have a great future.”
