MINSTER — Minster High School is replacing one champion with another champion.

Pending approval by the Minster Board of Education, former Wildcat Reetta Piipari will be named the school’s new head girls basketball coach. She will replace Nann Stechschulte, who resigned at the end of last season.

Stechschulte was Piipari’s coach at Minster, as the two helped lead the Wildcats to the state championship in 1998. It was one of two state titles Stechschulte won in her 27 years of coaching at Minster. In her career at Minster, Stechschulte won 440 games, 18 sectional titles, nine district titles and two regional titles at Minster. Prior to coming to Minster, Stechschulte won 84 as coach of Oak Hills High School.

Minster went 21-5 last year, winning the Midwest Athletic Conference title, a sectional and district title. The Wildcats’ season came to an end with a loss to Fort Loramie in the Division IV regional semfinals.

Following her career at Minster, Piipari went on to play for four years at Xavier University. She has spent the past 12 seasons playing professional basketball in her native Finland and Spain. She also has been the head coach of several club teams in Finland.
