JACKSON CENTER – Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, calls himself the biggest cheerleader of American manufacturing, and that’s why he visited the Airstream Factory in Jackson Center Monday.
Brown met with workers and company leadership to learn about the history of the company and how they are making and keeping jobs.
After the meeting, he toured the plant, which manufactures recreational vehicles, including the “silver bullet” travel trailer.
“I love watching things be made,” Brown said.
He said, factories like this are dominating the market by employing people in America, with good wages and benefits.
The market took a hit, but we are seeing consistent growth in manufacturing jobs, Brown said.
He said by working with small communities, like Jackson Center, they are really making progress.
“Airstream is not just an iconic American company, it is critical to our state’s economy,” Brown said. “Manufacturing jobs have the strongest multiplier effect of any industry and we see innovation happening on the floors of factories here and across Ohio – helping to move our economy forward. That’s why I’m working every day to ensure that ideas developed in the U.S. will also be made in the U.S.”
Brown is a strong supporter of American manufacturing. In December 2014, Brown’s manufacturing jobs legislation to create the first-ever national network of manufacturing hubs was signed into law. Cosponsored by U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Missouri, the Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act (RAMI) will establish a National Network of Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) and create thousands of high-paying, high-tech manufacturing jobs while enhancing the United States’ role as the world’s leader in advanced manufacturing.
