SIDNEY — A Dayton man was arrested for possession of drugs, carrying concealed weapons and having weapons under disability following a traffic stop on Thursday morning on Interstate 75 near Sidney.

According to Shelby County Sheriff John R. Lenhart’s press release, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped the vehicle driven by Donny Lee Cole, 40, for a registration violation on I-75 on Feb. 16, around 11:38 a.m. They soon discovered Cole did not have a valid driver’s license and observed “indicators of criminal activity.”

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was summoned to the scene, where the K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A probable cause search yielded approximately 1 ounce of methamphetamine, and a loaded 9mm handgun in the center console of the vehicle.

Cole is prohibited by law from possessing a firearm due to previous drug convictions. Cole was arraigned in Sidney Municipal Court on Feb. 17 and posted bond. He has a preliminary hearing on Feb. 27 at 10 a.m.
