SIDNEY — Lehman Catholic High School senior Seth Brown, of Sidney, Ohio, won first place in the Fourth District of Ohio’s 2017 Congressional Art Competition. His winning piece, “Self-portrait montage,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol along with other winning artwork from around the country.

Congressman Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, attended a reception on Friday, April 21, that announced the 2017 Congressional Art Contest winner for Ohio’s Fourth District. The reception was held at the Marion County Administration Building in Marion, Ohio. The annual competition lets aspiring high school artists compete for the chance to feature a work of art in the U.S. Capitol.

Marion Pleasant High School junior Ava Johnston came in second with “The Window to the Soul.” Fremont Ross High School senior Mann Patel came in third with “Run.” Edison High School senior Maddie Weyer received an honorable mention for “Reflection.”

“Every year I look forward to seeing the talents of the Fourth District’s next generation of artists on display,” said Jordan. “This year another great group of students submitted incredible artwork. I’m so proud of Seth, and all of the hard-working, dedicated Fourth District students who participated.”

Brown will receive two airfare tickets to Washington, D.C., to see his artwork on display. He will also be eligible for a scholarship.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
