Short standoff leads to arrest

SIDNEY – A man was arrested Tuesday following a short standoff with the Sidney/Piqua Tactical Response Team.

David Pearson, 46, 870 Merri Lane, was taken into custody by the Sidney Police Department at his residence.

According to a Sidney Police press release, on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at about 6:30 p.m. a Sidney Police officer spotted Pearson exiting a vehicle to enter 870 Merri Lane with another unknown man. Pearson had two out of county warrants issued for him and was listed as armed and dangerous. By the time the officer turned around both men had entered the residence.

When back up officers arrived they attempted contact at the residence but no one would answer. The joint, Sidney/Piqua Tactical Response Team was called in while a search warrant was being prepared. After the Tactical Response Team was in place, Pearson surrendered without incident and was arrested. The second male exited the residence a short time later and was detained briefly before being released.

Inside the house, officers on the Tactical Response Team detected evidence of illegal drugs. A search warrant for narcotics has been obtained and the investigation continues with detectives from the Sidney Police Department.

The warrants for pearson’s arrest were from Mercer County and the Wapakoneta Police Department.

The incident remains under investigation
