DAYTON — Victoria Theatre Association has announced its latest community project, One Small Voice: Women Who Rock.

One Small Voice strives to provide women singers and songwriters, 13 and older, with private coaching and recording opportunities that will ultimately give participants the confidence to follow their own music journeys as solo artists. Video submissions will be accepted beginning Feb. 5 until March 5.

One Small Voice participants will be selected through a video submission process. Candidates for participation in One Small Voice: Women Who Rock are required to upload 60 to 90 seconds of themselves singing and playing original music. For information on how to submit a video, visit https://victoriatheatre.com/create-learn/community/projects/one-small-voice/ or call 937-228-7591.

One Small Voice: Women Who Rock, inspired by “Beautiful— The Carole King Musical,” seeks to identify fledgling female singer-songwriters in the Dayton region and provide them with a unique singer-songwriter boot camp experience centered around Carole King’s message that one small voice “speaking out in honesty can change the world.”

Selected participants will complete a month-long boot camp experience which will immerse them in the music industry, culminating in the creation of a signature song which participants will both professionally record and share live. The boot camp comprises six workshop sessions and several private coaching and recording sessions, running from April 17 to May 24. Each individual session is designed to cover a different aspect of the songwriting process; collectively, the sessions culminate in the creation and recording of an original signature song.

“Beautiful—The Carole King Musical” follows Carole King’s real-life journey from writing songs with her then -husband, Gerry Goffin, and other artists, to finding her own voice as a solo artist after her marriage ended. The National Broadway tour of “Beautiful” opens in the Schuster Performing Arts Center, May 22 and runs through May 27. Tickets for the musical are on sale now at ticketcenterstage.com.
