Seniors hold offices at Buckeye Girls State

SIDNEY — The Sidney American Legion Auxiliary named delegates to the 71st annual Department of Ohio American Legion Auxiliary Buckeye Girls State

The event was at University of Mount Union in Alliance, June 12-18.

The delegates became citizens of their own state and members of a political party, ran for elected office and dealt with affairs of government at all levels.

Three Sidney High and one Lehman Catholic High school seniors attended. They all are from Sidney.

Jennifer Barnes, daughter of Kathy and Bob Barnes, was elected a city councilman representing Taft City. Zoe Crist, daugther of Karyn Bay and Bill Crist, served as the director of the Department of Natural Resources for the city of Soowers. Emily Tolbert, daughter of Susan Tolbert, served as the director of the Department of Natural Resources for Bombeck City. Melanie Brunner, daughter of Julie and John Brunner, was the director of the Office of Management and Budget for Stoy City.

Nearly 900 students from across the state participated in the week-long program.
