BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — A judge has set a $1 million bond for an Ohio woman accused of killing her three sons because authorities say she was jealous of the attention her husband paid them.

Brittany Pilkington appeared briefly Thursday in Bellefontaine (behl-FOWN’-tihn) Municipal Court but didn’t speak. She wasn’t required to enter a plea.

Investigators say the 23-year-old smothered two sons, one in July 2014 and the other on April 6. Authorities took custody of her third son after he was born three months ago, but a judge allowed him to be returned home because there wasn’t conclusive evidence the first two boys had been killed. The third son died Tuesday.

Lori Cummins, Pilkington’s mother, says she believes her daughter is innocent. Although authorities say Pilkington confessed, Cummins says her daughter told her in a jailhouse call she didn’t do it.
