Rain shortens County Preview

SIDNEY — Rain interfered with the annual Shelby County League boys golf preview Monday at Shelby Oaks, stopping the tournament after 13 holes.

Russia was declared the winner with a score of 29-over par, and second was Fort Loramie at plus-37.

Jonah Counts of Russia was the medalist with a score of 3-over par. Anna’s Zach Watren was at plus-4, as was Fort Loramie’s Brad Goettemoeller. Russia’s Gunnar Young was at plus-5.

Raiders win NB

Invitational

MINSTER — The Russia boys made it two in a row to start the season, taking first place in the annual New Bremen Cardinal Invitational.

The Raiders won by a single stroke over Versailles. There were 13 teams in the competition, which took place at Arrowhead in Minster.

Leading the Raiders were three players with 80, including Zach Sherman, Connor Monnin and Jonah Counts. Dylan Cordonnier added an 88.

Versailles was led by Griffin Riegle with a 79.

Brad Goettemoeller of Fort Loramie took medalist honors with a 77, leading the Redskins to a 336 score and fourth place.

Sidney sixth

BELLEFONTAINE — Sidney competed in the Russ Hogue Invitational hosted by Indian Lake Tuesday at Cherokee Hills in Bellefontaine.

The Jackets finished sixth out of eight teams with a 363.

Cole Cartwright had an 81 to lead Sidney, Jared Lindsey 85, Thomas Atwood 96, and Spencer Karn 101.

Riverside also competed and placed seventh.

“As a team we played a lot better than we did at the league preview last week,” said Sidney coach Thomas Goffena. “We took almost 30 strokes off that round. Cole is always going to shoot a solid score and Jared Lindsey played very well and drove the ball a lot better.”

Knouff ties record

Fort Loramie’s Emily Knouff tied a school record for nine holes, shooting a 32 in a tri-match with Tri-Village and Riverside.

Loramie had a 190, Riverside 238 and Tri-Village, the home team, a 247.

Megan Koppin added a 47 for Loramie, and Kayla Rosengarten and Amy Eilerman both shot 54.
