At the meeting of the Tuchabachee Society of the Baptist Church held in the home of Leroy Bland, North Ohio Avenue, last evening, officers for the new year were elected. Leroy Bland was named president; Miss Grace Archer, vice president; Miss Cleda Wyland, secretary; and Miss Pauline Pence, treasurer.

75 years

Dec. 11, 1940

Members of the American Legion auxiliaries of Sidney and Heiland Posts held a joint Christmas meeting last evening in the Legion Hall. The Christmas Story was read by Miss Phyllis Royon, and the Sidney High School octet presented a musical program. The latter group includes Misses Virginia Stump, Eleanor Lee, Jane Masteller, Caryl Whited, and Hubert Smith, Jack Rickert, Dick Russell and Don Davis.

50 years

Dec. 11, 1965

James P. Humphrey, 612 Park Street, was named president of the Tri-County Community Action Commission of Champaign, Logan and Shelby Counties, when trustees of the three county groups met in Sidney Monday evening. Each of the three counties had five trustees present for the meeting. From Shelby County these included, in addition to Humphrey and Wilson, George Burrey, Merton Maxwell, Paul Needles and Webster Geib, representing Sidney School Superintendent Roger McGee.

Christmas Sketch: Santa’s helper has a bright idea for a gift as he makes his final preparations for Christmas. The elf was drawn by Erin Maurer, a sixth grader at Holy Angels School.

Daniel Hemm, who has an auto dealership in Piqua, plans to open a new and used car dealership in Sidney in the spring. A new car dealership is being constructed on Wapakoneta Avenue which is scheduled to open sometime in the spring, Hemm said. He is president and owner of Dan Hemm Oldsmobile-Cadillac Inc. in Piqua. The new business will sell Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge and Dodge Truck products and is an expansion of his Piqua dealership.
