SIDNEY — The Senior Center of Sidney-Shelby County is a bustling facility, with a range of daily activities to serve physical and social needs of residents over age 50. Since it opened in 1997, thousands of members and guests have used the center for exercise, card games, meals, educational sessions, community functions and entertainment.
Match Day gifts will help the center replace worn flooring, add exercise equipment, expand hours for athletic trainers who staff the exercise room and purchase tables.
“We have more than 900 members, many of whom frequent the center on a regular basis,” said Eileen Wiseman, executive director. “Replacing flooring in the south entryway improves an often-used area and freshens our appearance for those considering membership. First appearances are critical, especially when potential new members visit the Senior Center.
“Younger members are attuned to exercise and often join and attend the center to maintain fitness,” said Wiseman. “Match Day gifts will help add new exercise equipment, including another treadmill and stationary bike. We need to add hours for our two Certified Personal Trainers who teach members how to properly use equipment and plan their exercise routine.”
Depending upon the level of giving, the Center hopes to purchase lighter-weight tables to replace 36 heavier ones in the second-floor auditorium. Staff and volunteers often set up for the center’s events, as well as for facility rentals. The lighter-weight tables would be much easier to carry and set up.
