SIDNEY – A Sidney man has been sentenced to two years in the state penitentiary for his role in a home invasion case while a Maplewood man also received a prison term for his involvement in a stabbing incident. Also, a jury trial verdict rendered another man guilty of a drug charge.
Several other cases involving varying charges were also held in Shelby County Common Pleas Court recently.
John A. Walker Jr., 29, 240 Pomeroy Ave., was sentenced to 24 months with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) on a charge of violating a protection order, a third-degree felony.
According to online court records, Walker forcibly entered a home at 3205 Red Feather Drive, shoving the occupant, and committed a theft. He had been court ordered to stay 500 feet away from the victim prior to the incident.
Aaron J. Bensman, 35, 12320 Pasco Montra Road, Maplewood, was ordered to serve 17 months with the ODRC on a charge of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony.
He was originally charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, for the stabbing of another person in the ear on June 15.
In a one-day jury trial, Franklin L. Lee, 62, 624 Park St., was found guilty on a charge of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He was arrested on April 4 in possession of cocaine.
Phillip D. McCloskey, 20, 132 Pike St., entered a guilty plea to a charge of burglary, a fourth-degree felony, during his final pretrial. When sentenced, he faces a maximum of 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
McCloskey was one of four people who entered a home at 843 Meri Lane on May 26 to purposely inflict physical harm on someone.
In other cases:
•Austin James Depinet, 22, 514 Second Ave., was ordered to be held at the Shelby County Jail on a $2,500 bond for a probation violation.
His original charge was attempted theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was found guilty of stealing a safe, cash and jewelry from a residence at 311 ½ Maple St. on March 1.
Depinet was first placed on five years of community control, ordered to obtain drug and alcohol counseling, pay $1,156 in restitution, and, pay the court costs.
Judge James Stevenson ordered Depinet to participate in the counseling program at the Western Ohio Regional Treatment and Habilitation (WORTH) Center in Lima.
•Gina A. Bailey, 49, 634 S. Miami Ave., was ordered to jail and placed on a $5,000 bond when her probation was revoked on a charge of felonious assault, a fourth-degree felony.
Bailey is to remain incarcerated until she is transferred to the WORTH Center.
•Anthony Ryan Thomas, 19, 12596 Kirkwood Road, was granted a request for him to obtain rehabilitation counseling in lieu of conviction. He was ordered to the county jail until he can be transported to the WORTH Center.
Stevenson suspended his sentencing on a count of attempted aggravated trafficking in drugs, a fourth-degree felony, until the results of the counseling are received by the court. If successfully completed the case will be dismissed.
Thomas was found guilty of selling Methamphetamine on four different dates. He faces a maximum of 12 months in prison and a $2,500 fine on each count.
•Sarah A. Finfrock, 35, 710 Lynn St., was placed on five years of community control on a charge of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. She was ordered to successfully complete the MonDay Program in Montgomery County, and, to reside at the Miami Recovery House when released.
Finfrock was arrested on March 9 in possession of cocaine.
•Tammy J. Dobbs, 48, 715 Buckeye Ave., Apt. B, was sentenced to five years community control on a charge of attempted theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. She was found guilty of taking merchandise from the Sidney Walmart store valued at $1,147.33 on June 20.
Stevenson also ordered Dobbs to obtain drug and alcohol counseling, pay restitution to Walmart and the court costs.
•Thomas Groundwater, 33, Blairsville, Georgia, was placed on five years community control on a charge of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He was also fined $200 and assessed the court costs.
He was arrested on April 7 in possession of heroin.
•Bradley A. Stout, 38, Wapakoneta, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated possession of drugs and possession of criminal tools, both fifth-degree felonies, during his final pretrial. He was arrested Aug. 9 in possession of Methamphetamine.
Prosecutors agreed to drop two counts of forgery, both fifth-degree felonies. He was accused of forging a police officer’s signature plus filing a false police report to commit fraud against EcoAIM.
When sentenced on Jan. 9, he faces a maximum of 12 months in prison and a $2,500 fine on each count.
•Howard McCorkle, 55, 1117 Hilltop Ave. Apt. E, was sentenced to five years on community control and ordered to participate in the counseling program at the WORTH Center. He was found guilty of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.
He was arrested on June 21 in possession of Methamphetamine.
