On the morning of Friday, Sept. 18, 40 Shelby County-area veterans departed the Shelby County Fairgrounds en route to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor. This was the 11th trip sponsored by the Shelby County Vets to D.C. committee. There were two World War II veterans, six veterans of the Korean War and 32 Vietnam War and Vietnam-era veterans who went on the trip. The committee has now taken around 1,200 veterans, caregivers and volunteers to D.C. to see the memorials. The veterans returned to Sidney in the evening of Sunday, Sept. 20.
