SIDNEY — City Manager Mark Cundiff, Sidney-Shelby Economic Partnership Executive Director Michael Dodds and Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Vice President Dawn Eilert will be joining Sidney Mayor Mike Barhorst for the city’s first celebration of National Manufacturing Day. National Manufacturing Day is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2.

The group will be visiting Emerson Climate Technologies, NK Parts, Detailed Machining, Freshway Foods, Advanced Composites and MaMa Rosa’s Foods. They will then stop by DRT Power System, LLC, a company that is also celebrating National Manufacturing Day with an open house.

“Earlier this year, I received an invitation to participate in National Manufacturing Day from the United States Department of Commerce,” Barhorst stated. “When I learned more about the intent of the day, it seemed like something Sidney ought to join in celebrating. We will be visiting companies large and small that illustrate the wide range of manufacturing that takes place in Sidney.”

Manufacturing Day is an opportunity for manufacturers to highlight their work and their workers and to energize a future pipeline of skilled workers. An annual event that occurs on the first Friday of October, National Manufacturing Day is an occasion during which manufacturers can open their doors to showcase the potential of modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers.

Detailed Machining has previously participated in National Manufacturing Day, and will again this year with an open house at its manufacturing facility at 2490 Ross St. The open house will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m.

Detailed Machining manufactures products for the automotive, recreational, agricultural, heavy-truck and equipment industries. Its open house is designed to give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at new technology, CNC machining, turning, water jet-cutting — in short, modern manufacturing.

DRT Power Systems is also holding an open house this year. Formerly Sidney Tool & Die, DRT Industries is located at 1950 Campbell Road. Its open house begins at 9 a.m. and runs through 11:30 a.m., then resumes at 1:30 p.m. and extends through 6 p.m.

DRT Power Systems manufactures products for the aerospace, entry and garage door, can and container, plastics and foam, and rubber and plastic-hose industries. It also does general machining.

“We are looking forward to celebrating National Manufacturing Day,” Barhorst said. “Manufacturing is an important part of the nation’s economy, and certainly a major component of Sidney’s economy. I know that Mike Dodds, Dawn Eilert, and Mark Cundiff are looking forward to joining with me as we shine a bright light on these local industries, all of which have national and in some cases, global reputations in their respective sectors.”

Manufacturing Day is co-sponsored by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, the National Association of Manufacturers, and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership. It is supported locally by the Dayton Regional Manufacturers Association.
