Cottermans mark 60 years

SIDNEY — Shirley Ann Helen and Edwin L. Cotterman celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at a brunch with family at the local AMVETS post recently.

Edwin and the former Shirley Rumpff were married Oct. 28, 1955, in the First Church of the Nazarene in Sidney. The Rev. Rossman performed the ceremony and then purchased a pair of shoes with money given to him by the newly married couple. Witnesses were Christine and Oliver Garrett. Right after the ceremony, the bride’s nerves got the best of her and she vomited on her matron of honor. The couple had met when the Shirley had to stop Edwin from tossing bottles and cans from his car onto her lawn.

Edwin is the son of the late Catherine and Edward Cotterman. He has a deceased sister, Noreen Hughes. Shirley is the daughter of the late Lucille and Robert Rumpff. She has a sister, Nancy Gibson, of St. Marys, and a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Linda Rumpff, of Sidney.

The Cottermans have two daughters and a son-in-law, Lori Werling, of Sidney, and Lisa and Lonnie Werling, of Anna. They have four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Edwin and Shirley each retired from General Housewares, Wagner Mfg.

Edwin enjoys watching old Western movies and tinkering on projects in his workshop, “the Emerald City.” Shirley enjoys playing games online with friends in other parts of the world and reading Janet Evanovich books. They both enjoy watching NASCAR races and visiting Las Vegas and nearby casinos.
