RUSSIA — St. Remy’s Hall will partner with Community Blood Center to host its annual summer blood drive Tuesday, Aug. 21, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at 101 Remy St., Russia.

This drive will provide a chance for donors to win a $5,000 home improvement gift card during the final weeks of the “Build a Better Blood Supply Summer Blood Drive” campaign.

Everyone who registers to donate will receive the “We Are the Brave – We Are Blood Donors” T-shirt and will be automatically entered in the drawing for the gift card. Appointments can be scheduled online at www.DonorTime.com or by calling 1-800-388-GIVE.

St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia is one of the bedrock sponsors in a rotation of large CBC blood drives across Shelby County. The St. Remy’s Hall blood drives are held in April and August. In 2017, they totaled 354 donors and 320 whole blood donations plus 24 platelet and plasma donors.

CBC’s Kathy Pleiman presented the 2017 Platinum LifeSaving Ambassadors Club Award to coordinators Carl and Betty York. Platinum is CBC’s highest honor for achieving 100 percent or higher of blood drive collection goals.

The St. Remy’s Knights of Columbus serve as the blood drive sponsor. Their support provides for the barbecue pork and chicken sandwiches in the Donor Café, and about 40 volunteers bake homemade cookies.

Donors have until Sept. 1 to enter the “Build a Better Blood Supply Summer Blood Drive” drawing for a $5,000 home improvement gift card. Donors must be age 18 by Sept. 1 to win.

Eligible donors can enter a second time when they register for a second donation during the blood drive period. Official rules are available at www.givingblood.org.

CBC is honoring summer donors with the “We Are the Brave – We Are Blood Donors” T-shirt, a gift to everyone who registers to donate now through Sept. 1 at a CBC Donor Center or most CBC mobile blood drives.
