Eastern Star chapter gets award

PORT JEFFERSON — Stokes Chapter No. 543 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Port Jefferson received a Chapter Excellence Award, Sept. 29, during the statewide meeting of the Grand Chapter of Ohio Order of the Eastern Star, in Sandusky.

The award recognized chapter excellence in areas of charity and community service, chapter social activities, performance of chapter officers and communications.

Stokes Chapter was one of 74 chapters recognized as part of the organization’s Chapter Excellence award program and one of 33 to receive the silver Chapter Excellence award. There are nearly 200 Eastern Star chapters in Ohio. Award-winners were selected by state officers and committee members of the Grand Chapter, who reviewed reports submitted by the chapters.

This is the fifth year that Stokes Chapter has received statewide recognition for its programs, activities and overall excellence.

The awards were presented by Worthy Grand Matron Sandi Hermann, of Cambridge, and Worthy Grand Patron David Sexton, of Batavia, during ceremonies at the Kalahari Resort and Conference Center. Roger and Deb Wooddell, worthy matron and worthy patron of Stokes Chapter, accepted the award on behalf of the chapter.

Misty Wooddell received an Outstanding Excellence award for her ritualistic work.
