Sidney man indicted: vehicular homicide

SIDNEY — A Sidney man was indicted by a grand jury, Thursday, Aug. 24, following a fatal car crash, June 29.

Chadwick Amburgey, 36, of Sidney, was indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, operating a motor vehicle with a specified concentration of a controlled substance and operating a motor vehicle with a specified concentration of alcohol.

His indictment says that he was driving while under the influence of cocaine and marijuana and had a blood alcohol concentration of .104. He is charged with the death of Michael Vest, 35, of Conover, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Shelby County coroner.

According to a press release from the Sidney Police Department, Amburgey was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala at 11:12 p.m., June 29. He was traveling westbound on state Route 47, when he struck a minivan which was in the process of making a right turn from Royan Avenue onto state Route 47.

After striking the minivan, Amburgey’s vehicle hit the guardrail. The vehicle came to rest on the right side of state Route 47. There were three occupants in the Impala. Vest was an occupant of that vehicle.

The minivan was driven by Stephanie Dowty, 27, of Piqua. There were four individuals in her vehicle.

Also indicted, Thursday, was a Dayton woman, who has been charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs, illegal conveyance of prohibited items onto grounds of a detention facility and aggravated possession of drugs.

Ashley Hickman, 28, of Dayton, was arrested and remains in the Shelby County Jail following an incident, Aug. 17. The arrest narrative says that she was parked in a green vehicle along Ohio Avenue near Court Street, which is within 1,000 feet of the Holy Angels School zone. The narrative says she was “reported by a passerby, who stated a female was observed stumbling around and trying to get out of a green station wagon.”

The indictment charges her with possession of 29 grams of methamphetamine near a school and charges her with taking some into the Shelby County jail. She was also charged with having fentanyl in her possession. The charges brought against her by the grand jury have a specification on the $465.23 in cash also found in the station wagon.

She previously has been convicted of theft, three assaults, receiving stolen property, domestic violence, violation of a protection order, escape and several probation violations.

Other Aug. 24 indictments included:

• Kayla Hewitt, 32, at large, possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

• Nick Mariano, 40, 1620 Ash Place, possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools. He was released on a $2,500 bond.

• Charles Swiger, 51, of Sidney, trafficking in drugs.

• Erica Karbowski, 30, of Sidney, possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

• Landon Murray, 22, 1703 Letitia Drive, possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

• Ryan Parrett, 28, 1220 Morris Ave., aggravated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

• Marqueese Knight, 22, of Xenia, possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools.

• Josh McMasters, 39, 616 1/2 N. Miami Ave., aggravated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools.

• Randall Scott, 51, of Dayton, possession of drugs.

• Bryant Pennington, 39, of Detroit, Michigan, possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

• Jennifer Stephens, 34, 301 S. Miami Ave., aggravated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

• Michael Cotterman, 46, 1318 Constitution Ave., possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

• Todd Lowell, 35, 107 S. Wilkinson Ave., Apt. B, domestic violence and criminal damaging.

• Michael Engle, 32, 229 S. Brooklyn Ave., possession of drugs. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

• Justin Williams, 36, 1505 Spruce Ave., three counts of telecommunications harassment.

• Michael Stotler, 27, of Sidney, forgery and aggravated possession of drugs. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

• Cassell Baker, 24, Frankfort, Kentucky, aggravated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools.

• James Waller, 35, of Dayton, domestic violence.
