Lodging Tax Committee revisits two grant requests

SIDNEY — Grant requests of Sidney Lodging Tax’s 2018 annual budget from Raise the Roof for the Arts and the Shelby County Historical Society were discussed during a special meeting held Monday.

The purpose of the meeting was to revisit two grant requests that were originally discussed at a meeting in October for considering, according to the provisions outlined in the Lodging Tax Distribution Policy, grant-eligible activity applications received for the 2018 budget.

Because not enough information was provided for approval, the committee reconsidered grant requests of Raise the Roof for the Arts and the Shelby County Historical Society at a November meeting.

At Monday’s special meeting, the committee decided to reduce the amount of Raise the Roof for the Arts’ grant from $25,000, which was approved in November, down to $15,000. The change, Council member/committee chair Steve Wagner, said is because the organization plans to only host three concerts this summer instead of the five originally scheduled. The elimination of two concerts is due to the inability to hold concerts inside of The Historic Sidney Theatre, as renovations will not be complete. Wagner pointed out the committee has funded about $5,000 per concert in the past, so the amount was adjusted accordingly.

Wagner also noted that requested information about Shelby County Historical Society’s Civil War weekend project had been received and therefore there will be no change to the $20,930 originally approved by the committee in October.
