Wapak teen killed in crash

WAPAKONETA — A Wapakoneta teenager was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

Dakota Rostorfer, 19, of Wapakoneta, was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Auglaize County Coroner Dr. Thomas Freytag. No one else was in the vehicle.

According to the Wapakoneta Police Department, an officer discovered the accident at 3:45 a.m. in the 300 block of East Auglaize Street. The vehicle struck the main building of Mike Swaney’s Buick/GMC dealership, 301 E. Auglaize St.

Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Auglaize Street when the driver lost control and it went off the right side of the road, striking a vehicle in Swaney’s west lot. The vehicle then struck the building. The impact to the building caused it to partially collapse.

The Wapakoneta Fire Department, Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team assisted at the scene. The city of Wapakoneta Street and Light Departments were also on the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
