TROY — Steve Kaplan, of Troy, formerly of Sidney, has been elected president of the Sons of the American Revolution, Richard Montgomery Chapter of Dayton.

The chapter is one of three in Southwestern Ohio and serves the entire Miami Valley area, including Shelby County. The Sons of the American Revolution is a charitable organization affiliated with the Ohio Society and National Society of SAR, whose members have proven ancestry to patriotic activity during the Revolutionary War and founding of the United States of America.

“I am extremely proud and excited to become president of such a patriotic and important organization” said Kaplan. The goals of the organization are patriotic, historical, and educational in nature, with intent to preserve the ideals that fueled the founding of this nation based upon concepts of freedom and liberty.

“It is an exciting time for the Sons of the American Revolution, as there are many community service programs to participate in. From elementary school poster, high school essay and speech contests up to veteran- and active military-service support, there are ways for everyone to help,” added the new president.

Kaplan joined SAR after genealogical research proved that his fourth-great-grandfather, Israel Clark, served as a private in the Connecticut Troops, Continental Line and State Militia, of the Revolutionary War.

The Richard Montgomery Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesdays of the month (except for a summer break of July and August) at the Dayton Masonic Lodge, 2450 Riverview Road, Dayton.
