SIDNEY — Gateway Arts Council’s upcoming exhibit, “The Pickers Paradise Exhibit and Competition,” is designed for anyone who likes to repurpose or upcycle.

“This exhibit and competition is designed to celebrate creativity, imagination and ingenuity. It will feature upcycled or repurposed items. Upcycling is the process of converting unusable, discarded or found objects into treasures both functional and decorative. Some old china found at a garage sale could be turned into piece of wall art. A couple of bolts, nuts, screws and an old door can be turned into an amazing desk. Celebrate the making of something new. Anything is possible,” said Executive Director Ellen Keyes.

Entries must be original works or innovations completed within the past two years. All work must be at least 50 percent discarded, found or unusable materials. Works will be accepted in the following six categories: furniture, jewelry, lighting, two-dimensional wall art, sculptures, and home decor. One Best of Show and three merit prizes will be awarded.

Entries will be accepted through March 4 or until the show limit of 125 works is reached. The entry fee per work is $10, with a maximum of three pieces per individual, regardless of category. Entry fees are nonrefundable. Entry forms are available at the Gateway Arts Council offices, 216 N. Miami Ave, and online at Gateway Arts Council’s Facebook page. Participants may also request an entry form by calling 498-2787.

The exhibit will open March 18 with an awards reception from 6 to 8 p.m. and will run through April 16 at Gateway Arts Council Gallery, 216 N. Miami Ave. The exhibit will open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission will be free.
