New Sidney fire truck to be dedicated Tuesday

SIDNEY — Sidney Fire Department’s new Rosenbauer Quint 3 will go into service Tuesday, Nov. 5.

According to a press release from Fire Chief Brad Jones, Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services will be dedicating the new Quint 3 fire apparatus at Station 1, 222 W. Poplar St., on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m.

The Quint is a fire service apparatus that serves the dual purpose of an engine and a ladder truck, and provides five functions: pump, water tank, fire hose, aerial device and ground ladders. Quint 3 replaces Ladder 5, which has been out of service for over a year. The new truck has a 100 foot ladder.

Part of the fire department’s history includes having ceremonies when placing new rigs into service, the release said. This process includes the Quint getting “wet down” (receiving it its first bath), then the dispatch office activating the station’s paging tones and announcing the retirement of the old rig and welcoming the Quint aboard. Then, just like in “the olden days,” the Quint will be pushed into quarters.
