Louise Sheets Fund awards spring 2020 grants

SIDNEY — Several Botkins organizations received more than $51,000 in grants recently from the Louise Sheets Fund. The late Mrs. Sheets provided a gift from her estate to the Community Foundation of Shelby County to benefit the Botkins community.

Anna Rescue, which serves the Botkins area, received $22,437 for mobile radio upgrades.

Botkins Fire Department was awarded $7,945 for three sets of firefighter turnout gear. The grant provides jackets and pants, with the department purchasing gear such as helmets, hoods, gloves and boots.

Botkins Friends of the Library will install a book return slot with a $2,268 grant.

Botkins Historical Society received $2,165 to install window sill wraps on its Shelby House museum.

The Joint Recreation Board was awarded $10,203 to support installation costs for new playground equipment at the community park.

Botkins Local School received $4,400 to purchase vinyl safety padding for its gym walls. It will replace existing, original padding and cover additional areas.

Botkins Memorial Pool will purchase folding picnic tables with a $2,152 grant.

The fall grant cycle will close on Sept. 10 with $85,000 available to organizations in or serving the Botkins area. The online application will open in late June on the Community Foundation website at commfoun.com.
