Hurey named February Teen of the Month

SIDNEY — The Sidney Noon Kiwanis Club named Makayla Hurey its February 2021 Teen of the Month. Hurey is a senior at Sidney High School. She achieves a 4.23 GPA and currently ranks third in her class.

She is the daughter of Jeff and Lorie Hurey, of Sidney.

Her academic activities and academic honors and awards include: Yearbook; Student Government; National Honors Society; High Honors (all four years of high school); 2018 Honda Academic Honors Award; and the recipient of the 2020 MVL Soccer Scholar Athlete Award.

Her extracurricular, community activities include: Sidney High School Soccer; Sidney High School Basketball; Shelby County Rec Soccer; Sidney Alliance Soccer Club; Ohio Extreme Soccer Club North & South; Greater Toledo Futbol Club; Youth Soccer & Basketball Camp Volunteer; Soccer and Basketball Team Captain; Shelby County Rec Soccer Referee; and Student Tutor.

Hurey’s extracurricular, community honors and awards include: 2018 GWOC Soccer 2nd Team; All Miami Valley Third Team; 2019 MVL Soccer Second Team; Miami Valley League 3rd Team; 2020 MVL Soccer First Team; All Miami Valley League Second Team.

Hurey holds the record in 2020 soccer at SHS: Second place school record for shut outs in career and the record for fewest goals allowed in a season in school history.

After high school graduation, Hurey plans to attend Earlham College to continue her academic career by studying in the field of mathematics and continuing her athletic career by playing soccer for Earlham College Women’s Soccer Team.
