Our Home Family Resource Center receives grant from CPPS Heritage Mission Fund

CELINA — Our Home Family Resource Center has been awarded a grant from the CPPS Heritage Mission Fund (CHM).

The CHM Fund was created by the Sisters of the Precious Blood in Dayton to support groups and organizations responding to community needs in a way consistent with Precious Blood values and spirituality.

This grant provides support for the Direct Services & Referral program which is designed to provide a centralized access point in Mercer County where the working poor and folks facing financial emergency can begin a search for help. The Direct Services team recognizes that many people facing a financial crisis do not know what to do, or where to turn, when they are in desperate need. And, program staff understand that for some people, reaching out for assistance can seem intimidating and demeaning.

“The goal of Direct Services is to offer Mercer County residents emotional support, practical advice, referrals, and the resources that they need not only to overcome the immediate crises, but also to leave here feeling more secure, confident, and hopeful” Deb Simon-Heinfeld, Our Home’s marketing and development coordinator explained. “Whatever the pressing need — whether it is food, a shut-off notice, unexpected medical expenses, eviction, or emergency home repairs, we find that what folks generally need the most, is hope.”

A portion of the CHM funds will be used for direct financial assistance and food pantry expenses (vouchers for housing, utilities, prescriptions, and other essential needs plus, food, personal care items, and baby supplies). The balance of the grant will cover expenses to deliver services, because most other support received for Direct Services is earmarked for financial or nutritional assistance. This use of the funding will prove valuable for those who are seeking help, and hope, at Our Home.

Our Home is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located at 117 W. Fayette St. in Celina. The Direct Services & Referral Program hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; the food pantry operates Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.ourhomefrc.com or call 419-586-4663.
