Addy Ave. fire deemed accidental

SIDNEY — The Friday evening duplex fire on Addy Avenue have been ruled accidental, according to the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

A Sidney Fire press release states firefighters were dispatched on a report of a structure fire at 518 Addy Ave. on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at 10:08 p.m,. and upon arrival, smoke was observed coming from the attic. All occupants of the residence had safely evacuated and advised fire crews the fire was in the attic of 518 Addy Ave. near the rear of the structure. Fire crews initiated a fire attack to extinguish the fire. The occupants had attempted to control the fire prior to calling 911.

The fire caused moderate damage to the structure and was contained to the 518 Addy Ave. portion of the duplex.

All off-duty Sidney personnel were recalled and Lockington and Anna Fire Departments responded for mutual aid. AES and CenterPoint Energy were brought to the scene to secure the utilities.

The damage to the property, which is owned by Lakelife Properties LLC, is estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents.

Both occupants of the duplex at 516 and 518 Addy Ave. were displaced by the fire incident and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services Fire Investigation Unit has ruled the fire as accidental electrical in nature.

No occupants or fire personnel were injured during the event.
