PIQUA — Jim and Shellie Drake are one of five dancing couples competing in the 2022 Dancing with the Piqua Stars.

The annual dance competition and fundraiser for the Piqua Arts Council will take place Saturday, April 23, at Romer’s Catering in Piqua. There will be a dessert matinee at 1 p.m. and a dinner performance at 6 p.m. Craig and Nancy will be competing against four other couples in stride to win the Mirror Ball Trophy, all while supporting the arts in their community.

Jim is a physical therapist and center manager for Novacare Rehabilitation in Piqua and Troy. After graduating from Troy High School in 1999, he went on to study as an undergrad at Ohio University, and continued his education at Slippery Rock University, earning his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Jim has been married to his wife, Shellie, for 10 years, and together they have a young daughter, an English lab and a lab mix. In his free time, Jim enjoys CrossFit, dancing and being outside. Jim is participating in Dancing with the Piqua Stars because he believes in supporting the arts in the community.

After graduating from Piqua High School in 2002, Shellie went on to become a first-grade teacher at Washington Primary School in Piqua. Shellie’s family enjoys kayaking, crafting, and going to random dance parties.

“My husband and I love to dance. I danced all through high school while participating in cheerleading, show choir and musicals. I have missed it so much since becoming an adult and was excited for the opportunity to do something I love and have fun with, while giving back to the community that I grew up and currently teach in,” Shellie said.
