Landen’s 5K for Healthy Babies to take place May 7

ST. MARYS — The Grand Lake Health System is hosting the 8th annual Landen’s 5K walk/run.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 7 at Mill Park Shelter House in St. Marys. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the walk/run starting at 9 a.m. Same day registration cost is $25 and can be done by scanning the QR code or with cash or check at the Mill Park Shelter House.

This annual event began in 2014 to honor the memory of Landen Phlipot and raise awareness about SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Landen is the son of Joey and Jessica Phlipot; he passed away from SIDS at 3 months old. After their loss, the Phlipot family decided to turn their focus on promoting SIDS awareness in the community. With fundraising efforts, The Healthy Baby Fund was established through the JTD Hospital Foundation. This fund provides support for education about SIDS and provides a HALO SleepSack for every infant born at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital. Funds are also used for $1,000 scholarships to individuals pursing a career in nursing who have an interest in pediatrics or obstetrics. Applications for scholarships are accepted each year during the Spring.

Join the Landen’s 5K walk/run on Saturday, May 7, at Mill Street Park and be part of the SIDS awareness movement. If you are not able to join the event, and would like to make a donation to The Healthy Baby Fund, visit www.grandlakehealth.org.
