TROY – Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Habitat for Humanity of Miami and Shelby Counties volunteers, supporters and advocates have made a difference in 231 lives and directly impacted 60 families who deserve decent, affordable housing over the last 30 years.
On Monday, May 9, 2022, HFHMSCO hosted the 2022 Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Lincoln Community Center honoring volunteers of the year 2019, 2020 and 2021. Over 50 attendees and members from our board of trustees attended the event to give thanks to all those who have served us in our mission.
Whether volunteers have assisted with a build, an education class, advocated for affordable housing, volunteered at our ReStore or Habitat Activity Center, volunteers have played an integral role in revitalizing our local community. From 2019 to 2021 the number of total volunteer hours is 23, 906 hours with a value of $30 per hour than have been given back to the organization.
A volunteer questionnaire was provided to each attendee. Sandy Fisher, a long-time and faithful volunteer said, “My favorite Habitat memory is working at the builds and the Restore. Volunteering is important because it’s a chance to give back. The issue of housing matters to me because everyone needs a place to call home.”
The recipients of the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2019 is Michael Back and Elaine Barga.
The recipients of the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2020 is Jim Horstman and Susan Parker.
The recipients of the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2021 is Ronnie Curtner and Susan Hasting.
