SIDNEY — The Rainbow Gardeners of Shelby County will have its spring plant sale at the Great Sindey Farmer’s Market on the courtsquare in downtown Sidney May 28 and June 4 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The sale was announced during the club’s May meeting. Perennials, annuals, herbs, vegetables, containers, and garden art will be available at bargain prices.
Linda Jennings and Ann Heeley were cohostesses of meeting.
It was also announced that judges have copies of the Shelby County Fair Flower Show schedule, and the fair book should be available soon. Several changes were made to the rose and horticultural portions of the schedule. The club’s website will be updated in early June to provide examples and descriptions of this year’s designs for the Fair Flower Show.
Members learned that Janice Michael’s program on distinguishing between desirable and undesirable seedlings is available on the Sidney Daily News’ website.
The Spring Plant Sale has been set for May 28 and June 4, the first two Saturdays of the Farmer’s Market. The plant sale will run from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon each day.
Carole Carruthers provided the month’s horticultural tip.
“When planting containers, don’t pack the soil down too firmly,” she said. “Mulch pots that are placed in full sun. Stake tall plants or use a trellis. Containers provide an easy way to experiment with various plants without redesigning an entire garden.”
