Rotarians meet scholarship students

SIDNEY — Rotary lunch meeting guest speakers recently were the four recipients of the 2016 Sidney Rotary Scholarships.

Ed Thomas of the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA presented the winners. The criteria used in choosing the scholarship winners included their academics, financial need, leadership and community involvement, and input from their high school teachers. The winners were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship and include Caroline Heitmeyer, of Lehman High School, Erin Gaerke, of Russia High School, Hillary Benanzer, of Fort Loramie High School, and Bobbi Lowe, of Sidney High School.

Heitmeyer is the daughter of Jill and Dan Heitmeyer, of Sidney. Her future plans include attending Miami University to study nutrition and kinesiology. Gaerke is the daughter of Judie and Jason Gaerke. She plans to attend the Ohio State University to study operations management and agricultural communications and would like to work as a project manager for a company in the Shelby County area upon graduation. Benanzer is the daughter of Lisa and William Benanzer, of Fort Loramie. She plans to attend Ohio University to study English and creative writing. She hopes to write screenplays following graduation. Lowe, who is the daughter of Melissa and Kevin Lowe, plans to attend the University of Cincinnati to study nursing. She plans to eventually work at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
