SIDNEY — The Sidney Civic Band hosts a local favorite, the Swing Era Big Band, who will perform Friday at 7 p.m. on the courtsquare in a free concert.

Swing Era has been entertaining swing music fans and dancers throughout western and central Ohio for most of the past four decades. Created in 1975 by Andrew “Bud” Ledwith of Sidney, Swing Era has specialized in keeping the sounds of the golden age of swing music alive. This 16-piece band features some of the finest musicians in western Ohio.

Swing Era will perform a variety of big band music including songs from noted bands such as Artie Shaw, Woody Herman and Glenn Miller. Joining the band will be the vocal group Simple Harmony: Mary Knapke, Sherri Heideman and Tod Huston. This singing ensemble is known throughout western Ohio for the fresh sounds they give to great American music. They are regular guests of Swing Era band, in the tradition of great harmonic vocal groups that sang with the big bands during the golden age of swing.

A Spot pie will be given away, as well as a tray of baked goods from Bob Evans. Concert attendees should take lawn chairs.

In case of rain, the concert will be in the Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road.
