12-year-old bicyclist dies of injuries

SIDNEY — The 12-year-old bicyclist who was struck by a car Tuesday, Aug. 2, has died.

According to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, Elijah B. Looker, 12, of Sidney, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at 10:36 a.m. at Children’s Hospital in Dayton. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to his head. The Coroner’s Office ruled it an accident.

In a report from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Elijah, who was riding a bicycle on Bulle Road Aug. 2 around 5 p.m., was going south on the road, approaching the intersection of Sidney Plasttsville Road. He failed to stop at the stop sign and traveled into the path of a vehicle driven by Nathan Lessing, 18, of Sidney, who was westbound on Sidney Plattsville Road.

Neither Lessing nor the occupants of his vehicle were injured in the accident. No citations were issued in the accident.

Sidney Fire and Rescue and Victim Services assisted at the scene. Elijah was transported to Wilson Health by Sidney Medics. CareFlight then transported him to Children’s Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cromes Funeral Home, Sidney, and his obituary appears on Page 2.
