There are a great many residents of Sidney who are anxious to see the police force appear in helmets. In every instance this is the feeling of those who do a great deal of traveling, and find elsewhere police officers in full uniform. There is no good reason why the town of Sidney should not purchase helmets and belts for its efficient policemen. There is a good deal in appearance in preserving the majesty of the law.

100 Years

December 7, 1916

What appears to be the strongest basketball team Sidney High School has had for a number of years swamped Bradford High in the opening game here last night by a score of 66 to 13.

Louis McVay, of Sidney, was elected captain of the Miami University football team for the season of 1917. He has been a member of the team for the past two years. Sidney has turned out several college football stars over the years, but McVay is the first collegiate captain coming from Sidney.

50 Years

December 7, 1966

Ten men will represent Shelby County on the advisory council of the Miami Valley Milk Producers association. Elected Wednesday night were Urban Borchers, Russia; Frank Cummings, Sidney; Robert Henschen, Botkins; Harold Hollenbacher, Sidney; Cletus Hoying, Anna; Dale Maurer, Anna; Waldo Michael, Sidney; John Schmiesing Jr., Fort Loramie; Jerome Schmitmeyer, Minster and Harlan Stangle, Botkins.

25 Years

December 7, 1991

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Pete Rose would like to work for the expansion Florida Marlins. He’d like a spot in the Hall of Fame even more. To get a spot in either place, Rose needs to be reinstated to baseball. He’s hoping that could come soon, possibly next year.

With the advent of frigid weather, strikers on the picket line at the Baumfolder Corp. must contend with something else besides the loss of their jobs. A burn barrel provides some relief from the cold temperatures and gusting winds, and pickets can also seek shelter in a hut they have constructed on the site along Campbell Road. Local 2661 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, numbering 99 workers, has been on strike since Oct. 1.
