State helps Ohioans living with HIV/AIDS

COLUMBUS — Three nonprofit organizations received $1.2 million in funding to assist Ohioans living with HIV/AIDS or related diseases and their families with housing and supportive services. The grants will be used to provide short-term rental, mortgage and utility assistance, and some case management services. Nearly 2,300 Ohioans will be helped through the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program grants.

Community AIDS Network (Summit County) received $252,800 to operate the Community AIDS Housing and Support Project that serves Portage and Summit counties. The funding will support the operation of Micah House and Harmony Place and provide short-term rental assistance and some case management services.

COMPASS Family and Community Services (Mahoning County) received $35,000 to provide rental, mortgage and utility assistance and some case management services to people living with AIDS or HIV in Ashtabula, Columbiana, Jefferson, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Equitas Health (Montgomery County) received $1,003,596 to provide housing and supportive housing services to persons living with HIV/AIDS in the Athens, Canton, Dayton, Lima, Mansfield, Marion, and Toledo areas as well as surrounding counties. The funding will support rental, mortgage and utility assistance as well as some case management services.

The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program is a federal program administered by the Ohio Development Services Agency.
