‘Set the Stage’ camp planned at Historic Sidney Theatre

SIDNEY — “Set the Stage” Summer Arts Camp at the Historic Sidney Theatre is open and accepting paid reservations. The week-long summer day camps sponsored by Edison State Community College and The Community Foundation of Shelby County offer young thespians ages 6-15 the opportunity to take to the stage and become involved in all aspects of the arts. Registration dealing is Tuesday, May 31, at noon. Spots are filling quickly, so those interested are urged to register early.

Youth who participate in the “Set the Stage” Arts Camp become familiar with all aspects of the stage production process. Campers will learn lines, cues, prepare songs and dance numbers all while performing on the Historic Sidney Theatre stage. This camp will teach acting and hands on art skills, give performance experience, help build self-esteem and pride all while have fun.

Students will be divided up into appropriate age groups. Sarah Liggett, Sock & Buskin Jr. will direct young actors ages 6-8 through the process of performing the mini-musical. Camp runs Monday through Friday 9 to 11:30 a.m. On Saturday, all campers will come together for a final performance of the mini-musical “Spaced Out” for friends and family at 7 p.m. Camp Fee is $65.

“Set the Stage” at the Historic Sidney Theatre will offer ages 9-15 a full day camp experience. Young actors will hit the stage with Director John Young, Sidney High School, and Choreographer Laney Shaw, Kent State University from 9 to 11:30 a.m. to work on the production portion of the camp. After lunch students will be divided into groups (ages 9-11 and 12-15) to experience age-related breakout sessions with qualified instructors. Breakout sessions could include: Auditions that Make a Difference, Theatre Etiquette, Adding Vocal Value and Writing & Recording your own commercial. Campers will end each day with local artist Abby Steinke creating set pieces, costumes and other hands on creations. Camp runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday- Friday with a final performance of the mini-musical “The Drum” on Saturday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. for family and friends. Camp Fee is $150

“Set the Stage” Summer Arts Camp is made possible by Edison State Community College and The Community Foundation of Shelby County. Flyers with camp details and registration have recently been given to all elementary and middle school aged music departments in Sidney/Shelby County. Additional flyers can be picked up at the Historic Sidney Theatre, 120 B W. Poplar St., Sidney, Ohio.
