Eastern Star wins award

PORT JEFFERSON — The Stokes Chapter No. 543, Order of the Eastern Star, in Port Jefferson, received a Chapter Excellence Award at the Sept. 26, statewide meeting in Dayton of the Grand Chapter of Ohio, Order of the Eastern Star.

The award recognizes chapter excellence in the areas of charity and community service, chapter social activities, performance of chapter officers and communications.

Stokes Chapter is one of 70 Ohio Eastern Star chapters that were recognized in Dayton as part of the organization’s Chapter Excellence awards program. Awards are made based on a review by state officers and committee members. There are more than 230 Eastern Star chapters in Ohio.

Stokes Chapter received an engraved, silver-tone plate, presented by Worthy Grand Matron Susan L. Simpson, of Cuyahoga Falls, and Worth Grand Patron Steve Moore, of Urbana. Stokes Chapter Worthy Matron Deb Wooddell and Treasurer Bruce Ailes accepted it on behalf of the chapter.

Local members Misty Wooddell and Jenna Geuy participated in the ritual competition at the state meeting. Misty placed third.
