Teenager faces charges

SIDNEY — Charges are pending against a teenager who allegedly stole a vehicle and then failed to pull over for a traffic violation.

According to the Sidney Police Department press release, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle at 2:44 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, on East Russell Road near Broadway Avenue for the minor traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle failed to pull over for the officer and continued eastbound on East Russell Road. The officer pursued the vehicle for one block and observed the vehicle leave the roadway and crash into a fire hydrant near the intersection of East Russell and Port Jefferson roads.

The driver of the vehicle, age 15, sustained injuries and was transported to Wilson Hospital by the Sidney Fire Department Medics.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle had aallegedly been stolen sometime earlier in the night from a residence in Sidney. Charges are pending at this time until the investigation is complete.
