Summer reading program planned

SIDNEY — A free five-week summer reading program for students K-6 is being offered at New Hope United Methodist Church on five consecutive Wednesdays starting June 20 and concluding on July 25 (no session on July 4).

The program is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Wednesday. The program emphasizes academic/reading skills in a spiritual context and also provides a nutritious lunch, education about healthy lifestyles, crafts, and special activities.

The program is staffed by grant-funded college students and local church volunteers. Students will also have an opportunity at the closing celebration on July 25 to choose a book to keep for their own library.

The church is located at 8985 W. Mason Rd, Sidney (corner of Patterson-Halpin and Mason roads) There is a bridge closure on Mason Road between Hardin-Wapak Road and the church; detour on St Rt 705 or Cisco Road to reach Patterson-Halpin Road as alternate routes.
