MARIA STEIN — The Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics is pleased to host a two-part Adoration Guild Learning Series “Humor in Sacred Scripture”. The series will be led by Dayton, Ohio, Precious Blood Sister Joyce Ann Zimmerman, C.PP.S., on Tuesday, July 24, and Thursday, July 26, from 7 to 8 p.m. on both dates.

For more than 50 years, Zimmerman, has belonged to a congregation of religious women founded for Eucharistic adoration. She is the founding director of the Institute for Liturgical Ministry in Dayton, Ohio; an adjunct professor of liturgy; and a frequent facilitator of workshops on liturgy. She has published numerous scholarly and pastoral liturgical books and articles.

The sacred scripture is the inspired word of God and is how people learn about God’s fidelity, Jesus’ Good News, the Holy Spirit’s Gifts to use. From this relationship with Triune God people are set in the right direction of moral living and charitable self-giving. Yet, some of sacred scripture is really quite humorous. What new insights might people gain if they allow ourselves the freedom to laugh with God?

The first session will consider some humorous passages from the Old Testament; the second session, from the New Testament. Come, and be prepared to laugh … or at least smile! There is no charge for either session, but donations to the ministry of the Shrine will be accepted.

The Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics provides faith nourishment and spiritual renewal through opportunities for prayer and pilgrimage and inspiration from the lives of the saints. People from around the world visit the shrine to explore and enjoy this environment rich in holiness and history.

The Shrine is located at 2291 St. John’s Road in Maria Stein. For more event information, visit www.mariasteinshrine.org.
