Church plans special events

SIDNEY — Calvary United Baptist Church is planning two special events on at the church.

On July 29, during the 10 a.m. service, Paul LaFontaine will be the guest speaker at the church’s homecoming. Following lunch, which will be provided, The LaFontaines will present a concert at 1:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

The LaFontaines have been performing gospel music for 50 years. The group is composed of siblings Paul, Sharon, Ike and Sheri. Sharon’s Husband, harry, and their daughter, Vanessa, also perform with the group.

Paul LaFontaine is the pastor of the Literal Life Church in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. Ike LaFontaine is a Telly Award winning producer. Henry and Sharon VanWyk are music teachers and songwriters.

Sheri LaFontaine is known as Toledo’s golden voice. She traveled for four years with the Arnolds and was a staff writer for Daywind Music.

For the past three years, the group has performed at the Gaither Fall Festival in Alexandria, Indiana.

The second concert will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, when Love & the Outcome will be performing at 7 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $15 per ticket. Only 200 tickets are available for the concert.

Love & the Outcome features singer/songwriter Jodi King and her husband, bassist Chris Rademaker. They have toured all over the United States and Canada, sharing the stage with Newsboys, Switchfoot, Lecrae,TobyMac, Jeremy Camp and Francesca Battistelli.

The duo, during their performances, try to recreate the feeling they have watching the sun set in California. Those feelings are also found on their second album, “These are the Days.”

They debuted their first album in 2013 and have become a mainstay in Christian music.

The church is located at 9480 County Road 25A, Sidney.

The LaFontaines will be performing in concert at Calvary United Baptist Church on Sunday, July 29, at 1:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
