Churchs plan Pillowcase Dress Sew-a-thon

Staff report

RHINE — All are welcome to participate in a Pillowcase Dress Sew-a-thon to be held Saturday, Feb. 27, at 9 a.m., at St. Lawrence Hall, Rhine (east of Botkins, on Botkins Road).

The event is sponsored by the Petersburg Parishes of Botkins Immaculate Conception, Fryburg St. John, Wapakoneta St. Joseph, and Rhine St. Lawrence churches.

“The past Sew-a-thons were so successful and the participants had such a great time that they wanted to know right away when we’d organize another session,” said Petersburg Parishes’ representative Rachel Barber. Dresses from previous Sew-a-thons have already been distributed in Haiti and Tanzania, and to an orphanage in China.

Area seamstresses are invited to bring their sewing machines for a fun morning of making simple dresses and shorts to send abroad with Christian missionaries and travelers to children who may never have received new clothing before. Those who can’t sew are still welcome to cut out fabric and help in other ways. Lunch will be provided to participants.

Those attending are also welcome to bring buttons, ribbon, and any notions that might be used to “trim” the clothing. Those with questions, should call Barber at 419-738-4924 or Patty Mack at 937-693-3163.
