St. John’s Lutheran Church to offer a Grief Support Group

SIDNEY — GriefShare is a nondenominational, Christ-based program to help people grieving the death of a loved one – a spouse, child, family member of friend.

“After the funeral, when the cards and flowers have stopped coming, most of the people around you return to their normal lives. But your grief continues and you feel alone. Often friends and family want to help you, but don’t know how. That’s the reason for GriefShare. Our group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and have successfully rebuilt their lives. We understand how you feel because we’ve been in the same place. We will walk with you on the long path through grief toward healing and hope for the future,” states the GriefShare brochure.

GriefShare is a 13-week program and begins on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 120 W. Water St. in Sidney. The group will meet in the church parlor (first floor – accessible for all). The group will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Monday through Dec. 11. The schedule includes an extra session open to all – “Grief and the Holidays” held on Monday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. There is no fee for this series. Each participant will receive a workbook. Bobbie Bender, who has facilitated GriefShare numerous times, will be the facilitator.

All who are dealing with the death of a loved one are invited to attend. People are welcome to begin attending the GriefShare group at any point. Each session is “self-contained.” If you miss a class, you may pick it up during the next 13-week cycle.

For further information, questions or to register for the series, contact Lynn or Pastor Jon at 492-8047 or email [email protected].
