WAPAKONETA — St. Joseph Church, Wapakoneta, and the Petersburg Parishes will host a half-day seminar titled, “Faithful Sustainability,” on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the St. Joseph Parish Life Center.

The cost for the seminar is $5, which includes handouts, breakfast and lunch. St. Joseph Church is located on West Pearl Street, but participants may access the Parish Life Center via Blackhoof Street parking lot (just west of the church building itself).

Through workshops and discussions with local experts, participants will explore how the local church can reduce our environmental footprint, lower utility bills, nurture nature, and increase our commitment to energy efficiency in our homes, schools, and parishes. Topics will include energy efficiency, financing options, native plants, recycling, composting, and more. The seminar will be of interest to homeowners, as well as to facilities/property managers, church council members, maintenance personnel, and any people involved in the administration of church buildings.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided by Wapakoneta’s newest restaurant, J, Marie’s, and will include organic and locally sourced ingredients.

“We’re pleased to be able to host such a workshop about such an important and timely topic, especially at such a reasonable cost,” Rachel Barber, of the Petersburg Parishes’ Social Justice Commission, said. “Participants will leave this workshop with much practical information about improving their quality of life and improving the bottom line, while having a positive effect on the environment. We hope for a great turnout from church as and individuals across the area.”

All are welcome, but space is limited to the first 50 people to register in each of the (facilities or household) tracks. Those who wish to attend may register at www.CatholicCincinnati.org/SocialAction, or contact the Catholic Social Action Office at [email protected], or 513-421-3131, ext. 2660. Join one of two tracks: facility or household best practices.

The seminar is sponsored by the Archdiocesan Office of Property Management, the Catholic Social Action Office, and the Archdiocesan Climate Change Task Force.
