Minster senior quarterback Josh Nixon, who quarterback his team to the Division 6 state championship last season, and has thrown for 2,529 yards so far this season, has been named the Division 7 All-Northwest District Offensive Player of the Year in voting by a media panel.

Nixon had led the Wildcatgs to a 10-2 record heading into Friday night’s playoff game against Fort Recovery. Going into that game, he had attempted 322 passes and completed 180 for 56 percent. He’s thrown for 28 touchdowns and been picked off just five times all season.

In addition to Nixon winning an award, head Minster coach Geron Stokes was named the Co-Coach of the Year.

Nixon was joined on the first team offense by junior split end Bryce Schmiesing, who went into Fridat’s game with 63 receptions for 986 yards and seven touchowns.

Two more Minster players were named to the first team on defense, including Evan Huelsman at linebacker and Jacob Dues at defensive back. Both are seniors.

On the second team offense, Josh Otting was named as a lineman and Jason Schultz as the kicker. They are both seniors. And one more player from the Wildcats was named a secinbd-team linebacker in senior Peter Ranly.

Schultz is 32-for-34 om PAT kicks with three field goals in four attempts, including one from 43 yards out.

Division 6

The powerful Marion Local Flyers had five players named to the first two teams and one more to the honorable mention list in D-6 All-Northwest District.

The Flyers, 11-1 going into tonight’s playoff game, had two players named to the first team on offense in senior end Hunter Wilker and senior lineman John Schwieterman.

Junior linebacker Cole Unrast was named to the first team on defense.

Second team on offense was mammoth lineman John Dirksen, a 6-foot-6, 290-pound sophomore. He was joined on the second team offense by senior running back Aaron Nietfeld.

Pme more Flyer, Joe Wuebker, was named to the honorable mention list.
