Versailles girls win Celina meet

CELINA — The Versailles High School girls swim team recently brought home first place in the Celina Sprint Meet, held last weekend at the Auglaize-Mercer Family YMCA.

The Lady Tigers finished with 178 points to 131 for runner-up Bellefontaine. New Bremen was sixth with 34 and Minster eighth with 30.

Lexi Fliehman placed in four events for Versailles, including winning the 50-yard breastroke in 22.87.

She was also third in the 50-free in 25.49, third in the 50-butterfly in 28.57, and fourth in the 50-backstroke in 29.72. She was the top Versailles finisher in all of those events.

Abbey Marshall was third in the 50-breaststroke, sixth in the 50-back, seventh in the 5o-free and eighth in the 50-fly.

Heather Albers placed fifth in the 50-breaststroke.

Final team standings — 1. Versailles 178, 2. Bellefontaine 131, 3. Ottawa-Glandorf 71, 4. Fort Recovery 52, 5. Coldwater 38, 6. New Bremen 34, 7. Celina 33, 8. Minster 30, 9. St. Marys 27, 10; St. Henry 24, 11. Van Wert 2.

Boys

The Versailles boys placed third behind Celina and Ottawa-Glandorf in the boys sprint meet.

Highlighting the day for the Tigers was Cole Condon, who broke the school record in the 50-butterfly. He swam a 26.39, breaking the old mark of 26.81 held by Sam Prakel and set in 2011.

He finished fifth in the event and was also fifth in the 50-back and ninth in the 50-free.

Harrison Detrick was the top Tiger swimmer in the 50-breaststroke, placing seventh, and Clint Morgan was seventh in the 50-back. Quincy Baltes was ninth in the 50-back.
