Staff report

Sidney High’s varsity basketball teams will take part in the Greater Western Ohio Conference “Showcase” Saturday when Miamisburg comes to town.

Highlighting the day will be the back-to-back varsity basketball games featuring the girls and boys teams from the two schools.

Sidney’s undefeated Lady Jackets, 4-0, will meet the 3-4 Miamisburg Lady Vikings at 6 p.m.

When that game ends, it will be the Sidney boys, who are 3-1 going into tonight’s game, against Miamisburg, which is 2-2 heading into a game tonight at Fairborn.

“We participated in this showcase last year at Miamisburg and it was a lot of fun,” said Sidney girls head coach Megan Mummey. “It’s nice to play back-to-back games with the boys. Both teams are competing at a high level this year and it should be a great game for both teams. And it’s also youth night for the boys and girls who participate in our youth leagues.”

The boys game will cap a big day of events at Sidney in conjunction with the showcase.

Starting Saturday at 10 a.m., the freshman boys basketball team will play Piqua at the high school, followed at approximately 11:30 by the junior varsity game between Sidney and Piqua.

Also at 10 a.m., at the middle school, Sidney will take on Troy in junior high basketball.

In addition, the toy drive has been going on for a while at Sidney High and will conclude Saturday night.

T-shirts have been sold all week for tonight’s game, and Saturday’s student section will have a Christmas theme. Any shirts left over after Friday will be sold at Saturday’s games.

Also, the cheerleaders will be taking orders for yard signs, and girls and boys youth basketball league participants will be admitted free on Saturday. The boys middle school teams will be recognized tonight at halftime of the varsity game.
