SIDNEY — The Sidney High wrestling team took on Piqua in a dual match Tuesday night at the high school, and came away with a 42-36 victory thanks in large part to the Indians forfeiting five weight classes.
Sidney returns to action on Monday at the annual Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Coaches Association Holiday Tournament at Vandalia-Butler High School.
Seth Vonderhuevel at 182 started the match out right for the Yellow Jackets, pinning in 1:11. Sidney then got forfeits at 195 and 220, and a pin in 3:46 by Jac Beatty at 285 to roll out to a 24-0 lead.
Those would be the only two matches the Jackets would win, however. Piqua won the next six matches, including three by pin, won by a technical fall and one by a major decision. That would bring the Indians back from a 30-0 deficit to a 36-30 lead.
But the final two weight classes, 160 and 170, were wins by forfeit for Sidney, giving them the match.
